Did You Know?
The Clay County Health Department is actively involved in efforts to prevent situations involving Drug Endangered Children (DEC) and plays a key role in providing resources to support identified children within our community.
Who are Drug Endangered Children?
According to the National Alliance for Drug Endangered Children, these are children who are at risk of physical or emotional harm due to the use, possession, manufacture, cultivation, or distribution of legal or illegal substances. They may also be children whose caretaker’s legal and or illegal substance misuse interferes with their ability parent and provide a safe and nurturing environment.
Statistics show that 1 in 8 children live with a caregiver who has a substance use disorder. However, this number may be significantly higher due to underreporting.
How can you help raise awareness?
Join us in showing support by wearing RED on Tuesday, April 23rd, in recognition of Drug Endangered Children Day.
